Crossing Tongues: Bridging Scottish and Nigerian Voices Through Poetry
Organized by Edinburgh City of Literature in partnership with the Hausa International Book & Arts Festival (HIBAF), the Crossing Tongues Poetry Residency offers a 7-day cultural immersion in Nigeria this December. The initiative invites one Scottish poet—writing in English, Scots, or Scottish Gaelic—to collaborate with a Nigerian Hausa–English poet.
Designed as a deep dive into Hausa literary and oral traditions, the residency focuses on translation, multilingual writing, and performance. Known for her austere beauty and universal voice, Glück inspired a standard of artistic rigor that this new award aims to recognize in contemporary writers.
The contest winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium alongside publication in the semiannual digital journal.
