Federal Government (FG) Seeks to collaborate with the Creative Industry to Promote Security Awareness and National Cohesion
The Federal Government (FG) has expressed its readiness to collaborate and work more closely with stakeholders in Nigeria’s creative industry as part of broader efforts to strengthen public awareness on security matters, encourage patriotism, and foster national unity.
This position was reiterated during a recent engagement between the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), led by its president, Emeka Rollas. The meeting focused on how the entertainment industry can contribute to national development by using its influence to shape positive narratives and encourage responsible citizenship.
According to the minister, creative professionals occupy a unique position in society due to their ability to reach and influence millions of people through film, music, and digital content. He noted that stronger collaboration between government institutions and creative practitioners could help improve public understanding of national issues while supporting efforts aimed at building a safer and more united country.
Tunji-Ojo also acknowledged the growing impact of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, describing it as an important vehicle for social change and public engagement. He emphasized that government agencies are increasingly exploring partnerships with creatives to amplify messages around unity, civic responsibility, and national progress.
During the discussion, the minister highlighted ongoing reforms across agencies under the Ministry of Interior, including improvements in correctional services, immigration processes, fire safety administration, and civil defence operations. He explained that efforts are being made to transform correctional facilities into institutions focused on rehabilitation, education, and reintegration, rather than merely serving as detention centres.
He further stressed that addressing national challenges requires collective participation from both government and citizens, adding that progress is best achieved when different sectors of society work toward shared goals. The minister encouraged industry stakeholders to continue using their platforms responsibly to promote peace, unity, and constructive social values.
For the creative community
Speaking on behalf of the creative community, AGN President Emeka Rollas commended ongoing government efforts aimed at tackling security and developmental concerns. He affirmed the industry’s willingness to support initiatives designed to strengthen social cohesion and inspire positive civic engagement among Nigerians.
Rollas revealed that stakeholders within the entertainment sector have already begun mobilizing under collaborative platforms to champion messages that encourage peaceful coexistence, national unity, and responsible citizenship. He expressed optimism that sustained cooperation between the government and creative professionals would contribute significantly to public enlightenment and nation-building efforts.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to deeper collaboration, recognizing the creative industry’s role as a powerful tool for communication, advocacy, and social transformation. As Nigeria continues to address complex security and development challenges, stakeholders believe partnerships between government institutions and cultural influencers can play an important role in shaping a more informed, united, and resilient society.
