Plastic accumulation, industrial waste, and environmental pollution continue to pose severe ecological and health challenges across African cities. To turn these challenges into sustainable economic opportunities, telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has partnered with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to launch the MTN Africa PachiPanda Challenge 2026.The initiative is designed to identify, fund, and scale early-stage environmental enterprises led by young Africans. Supported locally by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), UNDP Nigeria, and technical partner Deloitte Nigeria, the competition empowers green founders to transition their ideas into high-impact ventures.

Tackling Nigeria’s Waste Management Crisis Through Innovation

For the 2026 edition, the challenge focuses directly on a single, pressing environmental prompt: “How can you innovatively transform waste management in Nigeria to reduce pollution, address health hazards, and build sustainability?”

Organizers welcome diverse approaches across industrial, corporate, or community settings, including:

  • Tech-Driven Solutions: Digital marketplaces for recyclable materials, automated sorting tools, or waste-tracking software.
  • Circular Economy Models: Upcycling plastic, organic waste composting, or alternative packaging materials.
  • Behavioral & Artistic Approaches: Public awareness tools, creative recycling art projects, or community incentive schemes to reduce municipal waste.

Funding and  Mentorship

Beyond technical validation, the PachiPanda Challenge offers substantial non-dilutive grant funding and enterprise development resources to accelerate growth. In Nigeria, selected finalists compete for cash prizes:

  • 1st Place Winner: ₦5,000,000
  • 2nd Place Winner: ₦3,000,000
