Featuring a $65,000 cash pool, this regional competition aims to identify, celebrate, and accelerate high-impact small businesses driving digital transformation and economic growth across the sub-region.

Building on the success of its inaugural edition in Niamey, Niger, the 2026 program will bring together 60 promising founders in Abuja, Nigeria, offering them direct access to regional markets, capital, and policymakers.

Eligible Sectors and Who Can Apply

To ensure a balanced impact across the regional economy, the 2026 award focuses on six crucial sectors driving West Africa’s modern growth:

  • EdTech: Platforms advancing quality education, remote learning, and digital skill acquisition.
  • FinTech: Solutions expanding financial inclusion, digital payments, and access to financial services.
  • HealthTech: Innovations improving healthcare delivery, medical supply logistics, and patient care.
  • AgriTech: Businesses modernizing agriculture, enhancing food security, and strengthening supply chains.
  • CleanTech: Sustainable energy models, climate-smart technologies, and green innovations.
  • TravelTech: Digital tools transforming tourism, local hospitality, and transport logistics.

To qualify, participating startups must meet specific operational standards. Applicants must be citizens of an ECOWAS member state running a business registered and physically operating within the region. Startups must have at least two years of active operational history, feature a functional product or service, and show clear evidence of market traction and scalability.

Cash Prizes, Mentorship, and Beyond-Money Benefits

While exposure is valuable, funding moves the needle. The $65,000 cash pool will be awarded to the top three startups in the competition:

  • Winner: $30,000
  • First Runner-Up: $20,000
  • Second Runner-Up: $15,000

Beyond the direct financial boost, the 60 shortlisted founders will participate in pitch sessions, masterclasses, hands-on startup clinics, and investor deal rooms. Selected founders will also gain direct access to regional venture capitalists, political decision-makers, and a specialized six-month post-award acceleration program designed to streamline cross-border expansion across West Africa.

Due to high demand across member states, applicants are encouraged to compile all required documentation before starting their application on the official portal.

Here is what you will need to prepare:

  • Application Form: Fully filled out (covering Sections A through J).
  • Identification: A PDF or clear image of a valid national passport or ECOWAS-approved ID for the primary founder (under 10MB).
  • Passport Photograph: A recent colored photo (under 5MB).
  • Business Registration: An official certificate of incorporation issued in an ECOWAS country.
  • Financial Statements: Two years of audited financial statements, management accounts, or realistic financial projections.
  • Business Plan: A concise plan detailing operations and growth strategy (maximum 10 pages, single-spaced, Times New Roman, size 12 font).
  • Pitch Deck & Video: A slide deck (maximum 10 slides) alongside a 1-minute pitch video in MP4, MOV, or WebM format (maximum 100MB).
