Global Reach and Social Impact Through WAR

Hosted by the Women Aware of Rights Initiative (WAR), AFFEST has grown from a local gathering into an international cultural movement. The festival provides a supportive platform for communities to highlight Northern Nigeria’s creative industry and heritage with audiences far beyond the country’s borders.

Founded to transform narratives surrounding communities affected by civil unrest, WAR utilizes the festival as an empowering avenue for women and youth. By displaying their artistry, resilience, and culinary traditions, participants tell their stories through culture and enterprise. Expanding its international footprint, the 2026 festival will be broadcast across the United States, United Kingdom, France, Senegal, Ghana, and the Republic of Benin.

“Rice & Rafter”: Celebrating Northern Heritage, Culinary Arts, and Fashion

The 2026 festival centers on the unifying theme, “Rice & Rafter: One Arewa, Many Stories.” The theme highlights the deep connection between Northern agricultural roots, traditional architecture, modest fashion, and regional cuisine.

Attendees can expect a rich, multi-sensory experience featuring:

  • Culinary Showcases: Interactive tasting sessions highlighting indigenous grains, traditional rice delicacies, street food culture, and modern fusion recipes created by top regional chefs.
  • Fashion & Textile Displays: High-energy runway presentations featuring handcrafted Northern textiles, intricate embroidery, and modern modest designs from emerging and established creators.
  • Arts & Storytelling: Live musical performances, traditional dance troupes, craft exhibitions, and oral storytelling sessions capturing the historical depth of the North.

Promoted alongside cultural preservation drives led by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, AFFEST serves as a vital venue for documenting and elevating regional heritage on a national stage.

Empowering Community Enterprise, Artisans, and Cultural Tourism

Since launching in 2023 with 300 attendees, AFFEST has experienced impressive growth, hosting approximately 800 guests in 2025 and projecting over 1,500 visitors for the 2026 edition. This expansion offers local artisans, tailors, farmers, and food vendors direct access to new markets, investors, and commercial partners.

Beyond immediate trade, the festival boosts hospitality, transport, and regional travel, supporting goals established by Tour Nigeria to position regional cultural gatherings as key drivers of domestic tourism.

Organizers invite visitors, corporate partners, and cultural enthusiasts to mark their calendars for November 6–7, 2026, as Kaduna prepares to present the talent, resilience, and beauty of Northern Nigeria to the world.
