Open Arts Fund 2026: Apply for Up to ₦500,000

Open Arts Fund 2026 Offers Up to ₦500,000 for Creative Projects Connected to Northern Nigeria

Artists, writers, filmmakers and other cultural practitioners in Nigeria can apply for up to ₦500,000 through the 2026 Open Arts Fund, which supports projects contributing to the creative ecosystem in Northern Nigeria.

The fund is intended to support new and existing creative work across different disciplines, while helping artists and cultural organizations develop projects, reach audiences and create opportunities for other practitioners.

Applications close on 10 November 2026.

What is the Open Arts Fund?

The Open Arts Fund supports creative projects connected to Northern Nigeria. Its scope includes visual art, literature, photography, film, performance, craft, research and community-led initiatives, among other disciplines.

The fund is particularly interested in projects that support creative development, improve access to the arts, build professional opportunities or strengthen creative communities.

Funding is unrestricted within the approved project context, giving recipients flexibility to develop and deliver their proposed work. Funded projects must be completed within six months of receiving the grant.

Who can apply?

The general Open Arts Fund is open to:

  • Individual artists and cultural practitioners
  • Creative duos
  • Creative collectives
  • Arts and cultural organizations
  • Practitioners working across different creative disciplines

Applicants must be based in Nigeria, and their proposed projects must meaningfully contribute to the creative ecosystem in Northern Nigeria or create opportunities for talent connected to the region.

This regional connection is central to the call. Applicants should explain clearly how their project meets it rather than assume that working in any creative discipline is sufficient.

How much funding is available?

Successful applicants can receive up to ₦500,000 per application.

The fund may support new ideas or existing projects that need additional resources for research, production, development, community engagement or public presentation.

A competitive proposal should show how the requested funding relates to the project’s objectives and how the work can realistically be completed within the six-month delivery period.

How to apply

Applicants should prepare a two-page proposal containing:

  1. A brief description of the proposed project or initiative
  2. The outcomes they hope to achieve
  3. A project timeline
  4. A budget

The proposal should be submitted as a single PDF to info@openartsworld.org, using the subject line Open Arts Fund.

Application deadline: 10 November 2026.

Applicants should read the full official guidelines and contact the fund directly if they need clarification about eligibility or the submission process.

There is a separate fund for Open Arts Community members

The 2026 announcement also includes the Open Arts Community Fund, a distinct funding track available exclusively to members of the Open Arts Community.

It also offers up to ₦500,000 and supports creative projects that can be developed and shared with the public through Open Arts Space. Its application requires a two-page proposal and a community membership code, with the subject line Open Arts Community Fund.

Applicants should not confuse the two tracks. Those who are not members of the Open Arts Community should review the eligibility requirements for the general Open Arts Fund rather than apply under the community-only category.

Why this funding matters

Creative projects often need modest but timely funding to move from an idea to production, reach an audience or involve a wider community. Yet access to financial support can be uneven, especially for practitioners whose work takes place outside the country’s most visible cultural centres.

By focusing on projects connected to Northern Nigeria, the Open Arts Fund offers an avenue for artists and organizations to support local creative activity and develop work with a clear community or cultural purpose.

For applicants, the priority should be a focused proposal with achievable outcomes, a credible budget and a clear explanation of the project’s regional relevance.

Apply and read the complete guidelines: Open Arts Fund 2026 — Official Call.

Editorial note: The general fund and community-only fund have separate eligibility and submission requirements. Confirm which track applies before submitting.
