MTN Uganda has officially entered the digital entertainment space with the launch of MTN TV by AfroMobile, a new streaming platform designed to bring live television, radio, movies, sports, news, and on-demand content together in one application.
According to TechAfrica News, the initiative marks another step in MTN Uganda’s transformation from a traditional telecommunications company into a broader technology and digital services provider. The platform is expected to deliver more than 60 live television channels, over 50 radio stations, exclusive African programming, and a variety of digital entertainment experiences accessible through mobile devices.

Speaking during the launch, MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge explained that customers today expect far more than mobile connectivity. Beyond calls and internet access, consumers increasingly demand convenient access to entertainment, education, financial services, and other digital experiences that fit seamlessly into their daily lives.
While the platform offers users a new way to consume entertainment, it also creates fresh opportunities for Uganda’s creative industry.
Filmmakers, musicians, broadcasters, and digital content creators are the primary persons to benefit from wider distribution, allowing them to reach audiences through a platform built specifically for African content. MTN also indicated that creators will play a central role in shaping the future of the service as it expands its content library and partnerships.
Representatives from AfroMobile highlighted the importance of using technology to tell authentic African stories, while officials from the Uganda Communications Commission described the partnership as an example of how innovation and collaboration can strengthen the country’s digital economy.
The launch reflects a broader trend across Africa, where telecommunications companies are evolving beyond network providers into digital ecosystem builders. Rather than simply connecting people to the internet, companies are increasingly investing in platforms that enable creators to distribute content, reach new audiences, and generate income.
As reported by TechAfrica News, MTN Uganda plans to continue working with creators, broadcasters, and media partners to build an inclusive entertainment ecosystem that supports both consumers and Africa’s growing creative economy.
With demand for digital entertainment continuing to rise across the continent, initiatives like MTN TV could help reshape the production, distribution and consumption of African stories in the years ahead.
