FG Reaffirms Support for Advertising and Creative Industries at ARCON 4.0 Colloquium

The Nigerian Government has restated its strong commitment to the country’s advertising and creative industries, describing them as vital engines of economic growth, innovation and job creation.

Speaking at the Advertising Industry Colloquium (AIC) 4.0 organised by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) in Lagos, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris outlined the Tinubu administration’s focus on building a competitive digital economy.

Government’s Vision for the Creative and Advertising Sectors

Represented by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Minister emphasised that the Federal Government recognises the strategic importance of Nigeria’s creative and advertising ecosystem to national development.

“Our administration is implementing bold reforms to build a competitive digital economy capable of creating jobs, attracting investments and positioning Nigeria as Africa’s innovation hub,” Idris said.

He pointed to the country’s expanding digital infrastructure — more than 170 million active telecommunications subscriptions and growing broadband access — as creating fresh opportunities for advertisers, content creators and digital entrepreneurs.

The Role of Advertising Beyond Promotion

Idris stressed that advertising is more than a tool for selling products. It shapes culture, stimulates economic activity, supports businesses and contributes to broader national development.

At the same time, he highlighted the need to balance rapid technological change with effective regulation. The rise of digital platforms and Artificial Intelligence, he noted, needs guidance by responsible governance.

“Effective regulation is not an obstacle to growth; it is the foundation for sustainable development. A transparent and forward-looking regulatory framework builds investor confidence, protects consumers and promotes fair competition,” he stated.

Call for Innovation, Ethics and Partnership

The Minister urged industry stakeholders to embrace innovation while protecting creativity, ethics and intellectual property. He assured the sector of the Federal Government’s continued partnership with ARCON and other stakeholders to promote responsible advertising, creative excellence and digital innovation across Africa.

More information about the regulatory body can be found on the official ARCON website, while updates from the Ministry are available at fmino.gov.ng.

By prioritising the creative and advertising industries, Nigeria is signalling that culture, content and communication are no longer side issues — they are central to the country’s economic future.
